QUINCY, Ill. — Recording their third straight sweep this 203-24 season, No. 21-ranked Griffon Tennis took down the Quincy Hawks 7-0 on Friday at the Quincy Raquet Club.
With the win, MWSU moves to 3-0 this season and has yet to yield a single point in matchups against Truman State, William Jewell and now Quincy (2-1).
DOUBLES
The No. 1 team of
Isabella MacGibbon and
Anais Peralta Criado fell to Blanca Salas Cruz and Mahi Panchal 6-3 to start the day.
Anya Chavez and
Greta Langiu took care of business in No. 2 doubles, defeating Katrin Ismailova and Anna Matino 6-3, leveling the playing field and setting up a point-clinching result in the No. 3 spot. Fortunately for MWSU,
Lucia Casas Blas and
Maria Saez finished things off with a 6-2 win over Mar Sarda Marti and Ana Alvarez, securing a 1-0 advantage for MWSU.
SINGLES
The next point was settled in No. 6 singles, as
Cristina Granero Boj beat Anna Matino 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 3 spot, Peralta Criado took down Sartda Marti in thrilling 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 fashion. At No. 4, Saez sealed the match win with 6-3, 7-6 win, giving the Griffons their fourth point.
In No. 2 singles, MacGibbon defeated Steffi Lao 6-4, 6-4. Chavez wrapped up No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Panchal. Casas Blas wrapped things up in the No. 5 position with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 nail-biting win over Salsa Cruz.
