Haug and Holcomb combine for home-opening shutout over Huskies

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Notching the team's first shutout win since 2021, pitchers Brayden Haug and Samson Holcomb combined to blank the St. Cloud State Huskies 5-0 at Griffon Baseball Field.

Haug started the game for Missouri Western (3-2), going four shutout innings while giving up three hits, walking one, and striking out five. Holcomb (1-0) was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going five shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out four.

Jackson Bryant led the way offensively for the Griffons, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and three RBI. Noah Cook put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Tyson Gerdes also chipped in, going 2-for-4 for MWSU with a triple.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Griffons took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. MWSU plated two runs when Cook left the yard with Blake Anderson aboard.

The Griffons then tacked on runs in the third inning when they scored three times. Those three runs came across on a three-run homer from Bryant that scored Kaden Doan and Ryan Koval.
