WEATHERFORD, Okla. — Despite darkness delays and rolling rain storms, Griffon Baseball managed to split a four-game series with Southwestern Oklahoma State by going 1-1 in Sunday's doubleheader at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
GAME 1 | Missouri Western 11, Southwestern Oklahoma State 8
Enduring a day-long delay between Saturday and Sunday, the Griffons fought back from down 8-5 in the fifth inning to defeat the Southwestern Oklahoma Bulldogs 11-8.
The game originally began at 3 p.m. on Saturday but was suspended due to the SWOSU Athletic Complex's lack of lighting. Play resumed on Sunday at noon.
Jacob Ross (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Missouri Western (2-1). The right-hander went one shutout inning while giving up one hit, allowing one walk and striking out one. Robert Farrell also made an impact on the mound for the Griffons, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing two hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
Quinton Robertson led the way offensively for the Griffons, going 3-for-5 in the ballgame with a double, a home run and an RBI. Quinn Gundelfinger compiled a standout performance as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Noah Cook also helped out, going 1-for-1 for MWSU with a double and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 5-0, the Griffons first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Western scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Tyson Gerdes.
The Griffons' deficit grew to 8-3 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fifth inning. Western picked up two runs, including one on a solo dinger off the bat of Robertson, which brought the score to 8-5 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Western held the Bulldogs off the board before rallying to grab an 11-8 lead in the sixth. The Griffons' bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a go-ahead, three-run double off the bat of Cook. The score remained 11-8 for the rest of the game, as Farrell secured the save and the win.

The Griffons took a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning, but could not hold on and fell 3-2 to Southwestern.
Farrell (0-1) came out of the bullpen for MWSU (2-2) and took the loss. Zack Cushing was a bright spot for the Griffons, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing 3.1 innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits, with no walks and five strikeouts.
At the plate, the Griffons were led by Kaden Doan, who went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Jared Munk compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Zach Hanlan also helped out for MWSU, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Griffons got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Western scored twice, with one run coming across on Jackson Bryant's single. The Griffons were unable to hold the lead, as Southwestern scored three times over the remaining eight innings to grab the 3-2 win.
