WEATHERFORD, Okla. — Six Missouri Western pitchers totaled 13 strikeouts, but Griffon Baseball fell to the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs 11-3 Saturday at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
Jake Beckmann (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Western (1-1). In the batter's box, the Griffons were paced by Blake Anderson, who went 3-for-5 on the day with an RBI. Noah Cook furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Kaden Doan also chipped in for MWSU, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Griffons first put runs on the board in the second inning. Cook came across to score the lone run of the inning for the Griffons and get them on the board.
The Bulldogs (1-1) broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the third inning when the Griffons got back on the scoreboard. Tyson Gerdes came across to score the lone run of the inning for MWSU, which evened the score at 2-2.
Southwestern Oklahoma broke that tie and took a 7-2 lead heading into the sixth when MWSU narrowed the gap to 7-3. The Griffons scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Anderson. The Griffons were unable to get any closer, as Southwestern added four runs to their tally on the way to an 11-3 final.
