No. 24 Griffons look for season sweep of Rogers State on Senior Day

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Women's Basketball will take their 10-game winning streak into Saturday's Senior Day for a battle with the Rogers State Hillcats inside the MWSU Fieldhouse.

Griffon WBB (20-4, 15-3 MIAA) will once again hit the airwaves of KFEQ Radio, as fans can tune in with "The Voice of the Griffons" Tommy Rezac on the call. The games will air on KFEQ - AM 680 and the KFEQ Live Stream

  • Senior guard Brionna Budgetts is tied for third in the MIAA with 45 made threes. Junior guards Jayme Jackson and Mackenzie Hart are tied for 21st with 29 each.
2/17 - SCOUTING ROGERS STATE | 1:30 PM
Sitting in 11th place, Rogers State (9-14, 4-13 MIAA) comes to St. Joseph on a three-game losing streak. The Hillcats fell to Northwest Missouri State 59-41 on Thursday night in Maryville, Missouri. Rogers is 1-7 on the road this season.

Who to Watch
Senior forward Alayzha Knapp is second in the MIAA With 17.2 ppg. Fellow senior forward Trinity Jackson is 11th with 6.7 rpg. Jackson is also sixth with 25 rejections near the rim. The offense is typically ignited by sophomore guard Kaya Goldsby, who is eighth with 74 assists and fourth with 48 steals.

Head Coach
Heather Davis is in first year as head coach for Rogers State. A Central Oklahoma graduate from 2012, she is the fifth head coach in RSU WBB history after serving as an assistant coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State last season. She also spent eight years on staff at UCO from 2014-2022. She played college ball at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (2008-10) and UCO (2010-12). As an assistant with UCO, her Bronchos went 5-8 when playing MWSU. She is 0-1 vs. Whitaker and MWSU as a head coach.

Rivalry Record Rabbit Hole
The Griffons are 6-0 since first playing RSU in 2020. Western is also 3-0 when hosting the Hillcats in St. Joseph. Whitaker owns all six wins against Rogers.

Western won in dominant fashion earlier this season, defeating RSU 84-44 on Jan. 4 back at the Claremore Expo Center. Junior guard Jayme Jackson led MWSU with 17 points, and Budgetts chipped in with 15 of her own. Clarke also had 11 oints and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. The Griffs held RSU to 22.6% from the field and 22.7% from 3-point range.

Back on this day in 2022, MWSU punctuated its 20th win of the season with a 67-44 victory over Washburn at the MWSU Fieldhouse. Clarke had an outstanding night, leading MWSU with game highs of 20 points and 17 rebounds. Her 17 boards are the third most in MWSU single-game history.
