ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western State University, in partnership with the St. Joseph School District and Lehr Construction, will hold its inaugural "Education Day" basketball game on Wednesday, December 18th at 11:00am.

The game, billed as "Field Trip With the Griffs", features the MWSU men's basketball team taking on Kansas Christian with more than 1,800 students from 17 area elementary and middle schools in attendance.

"We are so excited for such a unique and fun opportunity," said Ryan Menley, MWSU Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations. "Kids bring a contagious energy and Wednesday's atmosphere will be special. We want to thank Lehr Construction for making it possible to showcase our university to a future generation of Griffons and hopefully create some lasting memories along the way."

SJSD is using Education Day as a reward. The top two grades from each of the district's13 elementary school with the highest attendance earned their field trip to Wednesday's game. Students from Mid-Buchanan, St. Joseph Christian, Cathedral and St. Francis – Xavier will be in attendance as well.

"We are incredibly grateful to Missouri Western and Lehr Construction for providing this opportunity for our elementary students," said Lacey Adams, SJSD Director of Elementary Education. "This partnership not only highlights the importance of school attendance but also exposes young learners to higher education opportunities right here in their hometown. It's a win-win for everyone involved."

The game will feature kid-themed contests, an in-game DJ and a halftime performance from the Kansas City Disc Dogs.
