Men's basketball drops season opener against Lubbock Christian

Chaparrals shoot north of 60 percent as Griffons struggle to get offense going.

CANYON, TX - Lubbock Christian went on an 10-0 run to pull away in the first half, and the Chaparrals never looked back in an 88-48 win over Missouri Western men's basketball at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic from the First United Bank in Canyon Friday.

After five lead changes early, Lubbock Christian led 24-11 with 8:04 left in the first half and went onto lead it 45-24 at halftime.

"I think we got outcoached and outplayed," head coach Will Martin said. "A lot of things we need to do to prepare our guys better. But, our guys have to execute. We can't get out-toughed."

Zane Nelson led Missouri Western in scoring in his Griffon debut with 14 points. He also had two steals. Devin Butler, another Griffon newcomer, ended up with 9 points on a 3-of-5 effort from three.
