Starters go scorched-earth in Griffon MBB's win at RSU

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Griffon Men's Basketball saw all five starters reach double figures in points and knocked off the Rogers State Hillcats 90-83 on the road Thursday night at the Claremore Expo Center.

The Griffons (10-3, 4-3 MIAA) had five players score in double figures, led by Zion Swader, who had 22 points. Taye Fields added 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals, and JaRon Thames helped out with 15 points. Kiani Saxon secured 13 points, and Julius Dixon put up 12.

Missouri Western State outrebounded Rogers State 25-17 in Thursday's game, paced by Fields' nine boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to a 29-27 advantage, Missouri Western went on an 8-0 run with 2:59 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Fields, to increase its lead to 37-27. The Griffons then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 40-29 advantage. Western relied on its 3-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 40 points.

Following intermission, Western kept widening that lead, expanding it to 54-37 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Josh Book's three, to grow the lead to 60-37 with 12:30 to go in the contest. The Hillcats (6-6, 3-3 MIAA) narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Griffons still cruised the rest of the way for the 90-83 win. Western took care of business in the paint, recording 32 of its 50 points in the lane.
