ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western Tennis took care of business against Fort Hays State, winning 7-0 on Thursday at Genesis Health Club to improve to 11-4 on the season.
The Griffons (11-4, 3-2 MIAA) came into the match ranked No. 38 in the country, and played like a team possessed after falling to No. 28 Washburn last time out. The Griffons dropped one total point in the doubles matches, and Nicolle Donnelly even recorded a perfect 6-0, 6-0 in her singles match.
DOUBLES
Anya Chavez joined Donnelly in the No. 1 match against Irina Alfonso and Maria Paz Diaz, and the two Griffons came out on top, 6-1.
Anais Peralta Criado and
Isabella MacGibbon won the No. 2 match over Fiorella Mendez and Grace Unrah, 6-0, and
Lucia Casas Blas and
Ariella Curci beat Stefany Stemmer and Kylie Aufdengarten in the No. 3 doubles match, 6-0.
SINGLES
MacGibbon took down Stemmer in convincing fashion in the No. 1 match 6-3, 6-0. Chavez then beat Alofonso in the No. 2 match 6-3, 6-0. Granero Boj dominated the No. 3 match against Mendez, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Casas Blas beat Paz Diaz 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 4 match, Donnelly beat Aufdengarten in the No. 5 match 6-0, 6-0, and Curci finished the day off over Unrah, 6-2, 6-2 in the Nol 6 match.
NOTABLES
- The Griffons are now just a half game out of third place in the MIAA, and could overtake Northeastern if the RiverHawks fail to find victory over Northwest Missouri State.
- Donnelly's 6-0, 6-0 is just the third of its kind this season, with the last one coming nearly a month ago against Newman.
- The Griffons now have six shutouts this season.
