BB Primer | Griffons take on Northwest in road series test

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Missouri Western Baseball takes on its fierce rival this weekend, making the 45-minute trip up Highway 71 to take on Northwest Missouri State in a three-game series at Bearcat Baseball Stadium.

The Griffons (7-25, 4-16 MIAA) look to put Tuesday's game against No. 4/13 Missouri Southern behind them and build on their last conference game — a win 4-2 over Northeastern State at the Spring Sports Complex.

WHERE TO WATCH
Fans looking to watch the Griffons can tune into the MIAA Network for all three games this weekend. Click on the "MIAA Network" tab above to sign in and purchase a subscription if you have not already.

MR. CONSISTENCY
Senior infielder Brenden Andersen is the only Griffon to start or appear in every game this season and has played exceptionally well in all 32 games. Andersen leads the Griffons in batting average, sitting at .333 for the season. He also leads the team with an .872 OPS, is tied for the lead 24 runs, is tied for the second-most doubles at six and has the most RBI with 20 so far in 2023.

SCOUTING NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE
The Bearcats (7-24, 5-15 MIAA) have won one of their last four and two for their last eight. However, they but did put up 20 runs in their last win — a 20-5 stomping of Newman in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday. Despite this, Northwest did drop two out of three games against the Jets. The Bearcats have only played seven games at home this season and are 2-5 at Bearcat Baseball Field. Last time they hosted the Griffons, they beat MWSU in a weekend series two games to one last April.

Who to Watch
Sophomore infielder Cole Sibowski leads the Bearcats this season in batting average, checking in at .371 from the plate. He is second on the team in hits with 36 and third on the team with six doubles. Senior outfielder Ryan Koski leads the Bearcats with 40 RBI, 37 hits, and eight home runs. He also has 17 walks to lead Northwest.
