ROLLA, Mo. — Griffon Softball salvaged a split on Wednesday afternoon vs. Missouri S&T, losing game one 1-0 and winning game two 5-4 at the Missouri S&T Softball Field.
GAME ONE
Missouri S&T 1, Missouri Western 0
Held to just one run by pitcher
Harley Pruetting, the Miners scored in the bottom of the first due to a fielding error at first base. Pruetting kept S&T in place for the rest of game one, allowing just five hits and giving up zero walks. However, the Griffon offense did not come alive until late into game two.
GAME TWO
Missouri Western 5, Missouri S&T 4
Falling behind after giving up a run in the first and then again in the third, MWSU woke up in the sixth when
Natalee Weber walked with the bases loaded, bringing home
Mackenzie DeVine. Down 2-1 now, a pinch-hitting
Kaylea Fessler cleared the bases with a three-run double to right-center field, plating Weber,
Sydni Hawkins and
Kylie DeHook.
Chloe Armstrong made it a 5-2 game with an RBI single to right, scoring
Kalee Higdon.
Pitcher
Sam Pederson gave up only two earned runs all day, as the Miners (18-26, 9-11 GLVC) scored two unearned runs in the sixth to bring the game within one run. However, Pederson left a runner stranded in the seventh thanks to three groundouts, winning 5-4.
