Griffons can't escape early deficit at Emporia State

EMPORIA, Kan. — Already having clinched a series win a day prior, Griffon Baseball fell 6-4 in game three vs. Emporia State on Sunday, giving up all six runs in the first three innings at the Trusler Sports Complex.

Emporia (17-20, 11-19 MIAA) went ahead 3-0 early thanks to an RBI single Noah Geekie and a two-run home run by TJ Racherbaumer. Missouri Western replied with a Will Courtney sacrifice fly and a Hunter Rumachik RBI single in the top the third to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, ESU put three more on the board in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a Gibrian Pena three-run shot over the right-center field wall.

Rumachik and Ryan Neise tallied a pair of RBI singles in the sixth to make it a 6-4 game, but both offenses went quiet for the rest of the day. Pitcher Brayden Haug gave all up six earned runs but also threw seven innings, striking out six Hornets.
