Griffons secure first-ever postseason spot with win over Lewis

Box Score ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Missouri Western Lacrosse secured its first-ever spot in the postseason, earning at least the fourth seed in the GLVC Tournament thanks to an impressive 18-7 win on Friday over Lewis at Lewis Stadium.

The Griffons (9-6, 3-2 GLVC) have secured a winning record for the first time in program history and will play in the GLVC Tournament for the first time in the three years that the program has existed. Sam Pruitt led the way for MWSU with six goals and two assists in the win, putting her just four points away from 100 in her career. The sophomore midfielder did her best work in the fourth quarter, scoring three and assisting once in the final 15 minutes of the game.

The other main contributors to the scoreline were Karlin York — who grabbed four goals and two assists — and the ever-dangerous Madison Brady, whose three goals extended her lead at the top of the Griffon all-time goal scoring record book. In goal, Mackenzie Porter tallied 12 saves and only allowed seven scores.

A hot start for MWSU helped keep the energy on the sideline despite the cold wind on Friday. A quick 5-0 start helped the Griffons push on, and the game was never really in doubt after the first period. The halftime break saw the Griffons up 7-3, and an even more impressive second-half showing pushed the Griffs over the line to their first conference tournament.
