ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Lacrosse gets ready for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day and Senior Day in a pivotal pair of games that will go a long way in deciding if Missouri Western will make its first-ever GLVC Tournament appearance.
KEEPING UP WITH THE GRIFFONS
Fans who wish to watch the game can go to the Lacrosse schedule and click the "Watch" tab, taking them to the GLVC Network. Tickets for the games can be purchased online or at the gate at Spratt Stadium before the games begin.
ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF .500
Griffon Lacrosse (7-5, 1-1 GLVC) is staring a winning record directly in the face for the first time in program history. One win in the final four games will secure an 8-8 regular-season record, while two wins will secure a 9-7 regular-season finish.
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT ON THE CARDS
A record on the right side of .500 isn't the only thing the Griffons can achieve for the first time this year. Should the Griffons win both games this weekend, they will solidify qualification for their first-ever conference tournament and jump to at least the third seed. Currently, the Griffons sit in fourth in the conference, the last spot in the conference tournament.
SCOUTING NO. 14 MARYVILLE - APRIL 14, 11 AM
The Griffons and Saints (13-1, 2-1 GLVC) have already met once this year, a game that saw the Griffons go up by two goals in the fourth quarter before a Sydney Tiemann hat trick won the day for Maryville 12-11 in St. Louis, scoring the winning goal with 20 seconds remaining in the game. Maryville's only loss this year came against No. 6 Indianapolis in its last outing on April 8 in St. Louis.
Who to Watch
Tiemann is the key to the Saints' offense, scoring 85 goals and tallying 11 assists this season. Her goal tally is not only the best in Division II but the best across all of college Women's Lacrosse by a significant margin. The closest anyone in the nation has gotten this year to Tiemann's 85 goals is Division I's Izzy Scane, who has 68 goals for Northwestern. She is also tied for first in overall points across all divisions with Division III's Emily Bruner from Rhodes, with both notching 96 points this season.
SCOUTING MCKENDREE - APRIL 16, 1 PM
The Bearcats (5-8, 1-2 GLVC) are currently a half-game behind the Griffons for fourth place in the conference and will be hungry to make it back to the GLVC tournament after falling in round one to No. 2-seeded UIndy last year. They are 2-0 against the Griffons all-time but are looking up at the Griffons for the first time ever in the GLVC standings.
Who to Watch
Kat Albrecht leads McKendree with 46 goals and 10 assists this season. She is only one of four players to breach the 10-goal mark and only one of five to break the 10-point mark. Oliva Julian has 35 goals, Jayna Barnden has 26 goals and Jenna Sugarman has 20 goals. The Bearcats have only tallied 22 total assists this season, the lowest in the conference by a substantial margin.
NOTABLES
- The Griffons will honor six seniors on Sunday: Hallie Clark; Jordan Coulon; Delanie Boyd; Campbell Kennedy; Madison Brady; and Claire Coretti.
- Missouri Western is fourth in the nation in draw control percentage, sitting at .630, just .004 behind the top team, Grand Valley State.
- A win over Maryville would be the Griffons first over a ranked program, breaking yet another barrier after MWSU beat a team that was receiving votes for the first time earlier this season.
