Griffons drop series finale to Pitt State

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Baseball fell to Pittsburg State 15-1 in seven innings on Monday at the Spring Sports Complex.

Pitt State (12-6, 4-2 MIAA) put up four runs in the first, all coming off a trio of RBI base hits. Missouri Western (3-10, 0-6 MIAA) responded in the bottom of the first, as Travis Wiese singled home Jayden Singleton. Pitt State finished the day with six runs scored in the sixth and four runs in the seventh. Nixon Brannan, Cade Clemons and Karson Coffee all homered for Pitt, totaling five extra-base hits for the Gorillas in their third-straight win.

  • Wiese went 2-for-3 to lead the Griffons in hits.
  • Singleton stole his team-high fifth base of the season.

The Griffons take on GLVC member Truman State (6-6, 0-0 GLVC) on Tuesday back at the Spring Sports Complex in St. Joe. Tuesday's game has been moved from 5 p.m. to 1 p.m. The Bulldogs are on a four-game losing streak, falling to the University of Mary in each time in a four-game series.
