LAX Primer | Griffons return home after 25 days away

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Lacrosse will take the field at Spratt Stadium for the first time in nearly a month for their final non-conference game of the season on Friday against Concordia-St. Paul before kicking off GLVC play on Saturday against Quincy.

KEEPING UP WITH THE GRIFFONS
Fans who wish to stream the game will be able to do so by clicking on the GLVC Network tab above.

WINNING MENTALITY
For the second year in a row, the Griffons will enter conference play at .500 or above. A win against CSP on Friday would match last year's 6-4 non-conference record, placing the Griffons squarely in contention for the upcoming conference season. Even more impressive is the fact that seven of the first nine Griffon games this year have been on the road, including two-long distance road trips to Northern Michigan and Tennessee/Alabama/Georgia.

RIDING THE HISTORIC MOMENTUM
For the first time in Griffon Lacrosse history, MWSU took down a team in the "receiving votes" category of the DII Women's Lacrosse poll when they beat the Lee Flames on March 17. Since then, the Griffons are 2-1, with the only loss coming to another "receiving votes" team, Alabama-Huntsville. Overall, the Griffons have won three of their last five but face a stout test in CSP before getting to GLVC play.

SCOUTING CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL: MARCH 31, 11 AM
A Friday matinee awaits MWSU in its first home game since March 5. The Bears (5-6, 1-2 GLIAC) only have four games left in their season and are 3-4 on the road. Overall, CSP is being outscored on the season121-130, and averaging 11 goals per contest.

Head Coach
Ali Jennings is in year number two in charge of CSP. She is 13-16 overall at CSP, but is 36-25 overall as a head coach. Previous to coming to CSP, Jennings led Wisconsin-River Falls, where she led her team to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Who to Watch
Lauren Sheets leads CSP with 34 goals and 42 overall points this season. No other Bears player has eclipsed the 20-point mark, with Sara Kaiser's 15 goals and three assists and Susie Monson's 12 goals and six assists coming closest. Overall, seven different CSP players have broken the 10-point barrier this season, and 10 have five or more goals.

Between the Pipes
Candace McDole has started all but one game for CSP at goalkeeper. She is giving up 13.88 goals per game and sitting at a 45.1% save rate. She is 3-6 overall on the season. Maddy Huebner has seen action in five games with just one start. She is giving up 6.99 goals per game and has a 52.1% save rate.

Series History/Last Time Out
The Griffons and Bears have only faced off one time previously, a game in St. Paul, Minnesota, last season. The Bears beat the Griffons 13-8 thanks to four different players scoring two goals. Madison Brady had a hat trick in the contest for the Griffons.

SCOUTING QUINCY: APRIL 1, 1 PM
The first GLVC game of the season comes against an opponent the Griffons have had success against in the past. The Hawks (4-6) have a win over then-ranked No. 24 Davenport but are yet to string together back-to-back wins this season.

Head Coach
Kathelene Kim is in her fourth year in charge of Quincy. She was named last year's GLVC Coach of the Year. In her time at Quincy, she is 14-31 overall with a 1-13 record in conference.

Who to Watch
Danielle Robinson leads the Hawks with 35 goals and 38 overall points. Her 35 goals have come in just nine games. Patricia Chavira, Bianca Johnson and Amelia Ham are the three other Hawks to break the 20-point mark, and Josie Szmanda rounds out the QU players with 10 goals.

Between the Pipes
Kelly McClure has all 10 starts for the Hawks at goalkeeper, and has allowed 110 goals this year. She has a 43.3% save rate and is 3-6 on the season. Madison Whiting Wagner has two appearances this season, allowing 6.67 goals per game and has a 66.7% save rate.

NOTABLES
  • Brady needs just one goal to eclipse 100 in her college career.
  • Mikaela Ness is closing in on 100 draw controls in her career. She only needs 23 to reach that mark.
  • Brady is joined by Sam Pruitt and Karlin York with 20 or more goals this season.
  • Six different Griffons have 10 or points this season.
