TOPEKA, Kan. — The No. 25 Griffons fell 5-2 to No. 29 Washburn on Wednesday at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
DOUBLES
In No. 1 doubles,
Anya Chavez/
Nicole Donnelly fell 6-1 to No. 18 Sonia Smagina/Maja Jung. Washburn (9-5, 3-1 MIAA) clinched the doubles point in the No. 3 match, as Casie Curry/Marta Torres defeated
Lucia Casas Blas/
Ariella Curci. In No. 2 doubles, Isabella Martensson/Issabella Pensavalle won 6-4 over
Anais Peralta Criado/
Isabella MacGibbon.
SINGLES
Ranked 67th in the nation, MacGibbon fell in No. 1 singles No. 2-ranked Smagina 6-3, 6-1. The Ichabods took a 3-0 lead when No. 24 Jung defeated Chavez 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 match. Washburn clinched the match in No. 5 singles when Curry won 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 over Casas Blas.
Later down 5-0,
Nicole Donnelly got the Griffons on the board with a three-set win in No. 6 singles, taking down Pensavalle 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.
Cristina Granero Boj closed out the day with a win 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 win over Torres, ending the match 5-2 in Washburn's favor.
