Rumachik rips home three RBI in 12-7 loss vs. Maryville

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — A non-conference, offensive tug-of-war match with Maryville ended in a loss for Missouri Western Baseball on Wednesday afternoon, falling 12-7 at the Spring Sports Complex.

Brenden Andersen got the Griffon offense going with a double in the bottom of the first inning, bringing in Travis Wiese. He led MWSU with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate with three runs scored.

Hunter Rumachik grounded in a run later on in the first, giving the Griffons a 2-0 lead. However, Maryville (16-6) pulled ahead with four-straight runs through the second, third and fourth innings. A Hunter Olson triple knotted the game up at 4-4 in the fifth, and a Rumachik RBI single scored Olson to put MWSU out in front. Handling a 6-4 lead in the sixth, the Griffons let up two Maryville runs after the Saints paired together a couple of RBI singles.

Rumachik grounded out to second in the bottom half of the same frame but scored Andersen, giving MWSU the lead right back. Despite a standout performance from Rumachik and the Griffon bats, Maryville's Michael Gould tagged a two-run triple to right in the seventh, putting the Saints up 8-7. Up 9-7 in the eighth, A Jack Zebig triple plated three runs, giving Maryville the cushion it needed to close out the win.
