LAX Primer: Griffons kick off spring break in Tennessee

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Lacrosse starts their spring break road trip with games against two out-of-region opponents in Lee and Tusculum this Friday and Sunday down east in Tennessee.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY
The Griffons have played five games in this young season, and second-year Head Coach Jessica Berg has rolled out nearly the same starting lineup in all five games. The only change so far has been Hallie Clark and Jazmine Servance, who have started three and two games respectfully. The consistency of the Griffons' lineup has helped them find their identity, as MWSU has committed to slowing the game down and playing at their pace.

ANOTHER TOUGH TEST
For the second time this young season, the Griffons will be facing a team that is either receiving votes or ranked in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. Earlier this season, the Griffons took on No. 8 Regis, losing 11-7 in a tightly-contested game. Maryville, a team that beat MWSU last Sunday, is now receiving top-25 votes as well.

SCOUTING LEE: MARCH 17 - 5:30 PM CST
The Griffons face an interesting test in the form of the Lee Flames (4-4) on Friday. The Flames have lost their last four games all to ranked opponents. Lee only have one win over a team currently with a winning record, yet finds itself receiving votes in the most current poll. Its previous two games were losses to No. 14 Lynn and No. 19 Embry-Riddle on a Florida swing before they returned home to face MWSU.

Who to Watch
Maggie Luzier leads the Flames with 29 points, netting 16 goals and slinging 13 assists. Brittney White is the top scorer, collecting 25 goals and adding three assists. Caleigh Kenna, Megan Trout and Callie Curtis all have 10 or more goals as well for the Flames, and six overall players have at least 10 points this season. Between the pipes, Kaleigh Bernard has all but one start for the Flames. She is sitting at a 39.6% save rate and is allowing 10.75 goals per game. Caleigh Smith has one start and has a 40% save rate, while Emma Martinez has just six minutes in goal and hasn't seen a shot all year.

SCOUTING TUSCULUM: MARCH 19 - 12 PM CST
A pair of familiar faces will greet the Griffs when they roll into Greeneville, Tennessee, on Sunday. Kari Ham and Abby Lockwood both start for Tusculum (3-4) and played for the Griffons last season. Lockwood has started every game for the Pioneers, scoring seven goals and adding three assists. Ham has also started every game and currently has a 45.3% save rate for Tusculum between the pipes. The Pioneers ae 2-2 at home this season.

Who to Watch
Tia Daniel leads the Pioneers with 27 goals and 12 assists. Lucy Brewer has 18 goals and three assists, and Kamryn McNeil has 15 goals and two assists. Ten different players have scored for Tusculum this season, and the Pioneers have started the same lineup in all but one game this season.

NOTABLES
  • Five different players have 10 or more points for the Griffons this season, with Karlin York leading the way at 22.
  • Sam Pruitt and York are both sitting on 13 goals for the season to lead MWSU.
  • Mackenzie Porter has 44 saves on the season, which is the fourth most in the GLVC.
