LAX Primer: Griffons ready to take on Maryville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Missouri Western Lacrosse hits the road to face GLVC foe Maryville in a non-conference matchup that will set the stage for a wide-open conference tournament race as the Griffons get ready for a two-week road swing.

TAKING THE SHOW ON THE ROAD
The Griffons (2-2) have faced tough competition this year and have risen to the challenge, defeating Colorado Springs most recently to notch their first home win of the season. Now, MWSU will play five road games in a row, taking on the Saints before they head on a spring break trip to Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

POINTS GALORE FOR THE GRIFFON FOUR
Four different Griffons have collected at least 10 points on the young season, with Madison Brady scoring a team-high 12 goals and adding two assists. Karlin York has 11 goals and six assists, Sam Pruitt has nine goals and six assists and Jordan Coulon has eight goals and three assists. These four Griffons have nearly 71% of the Griffons' points this season and have powered MWSU to high scoring wins and close defeats to top-10 teams this year.

SCOUTING MARYVILLE: MARCH 12, 12 PM
The Saints are 5-0 on the young season, with non-conference wins over GLVC foes Quincy and McKendree under their belts. Picked fourth in the GLVC standings, the Saints look like early-season contenders for the conference tournament and will use this early non-conference game to feel out the third-picked Griffons.

Who to Watch
The Saints have a high-powered offense led by Sydney Tiemann's 33 goals and four assists. Helen Bae has 19 goals and four assists, Jessie Hynes has 15 goals and eight assists and Reagan Rukstrad has 13 goals and 10 assists. As a team, Maryville has 100 total goals and have only given up 36 goals, and opponents only have four assists against the Saints.

NOTABLES
  • Junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Porter is allowing less than 8.9 goals a game, which is fifth in the GLVC.
  • Porter is the defending GLVC Defensive Player of the Week after her excellent performance against No. 8 Regis and UCCS.
  • Brady now has 111 career points.
