TOPEKA, Kan. — It was a career-day for
Travis Wiese on Tuesday, as he knocked in four RBI in a 10-5 loss to Washburn at Falley Field in the final game leading into Griffon Baseball's 2023 home opener.
With Missouri Western (3-7, 0-3 MIAA) down by four in the top of the seventh, Wiese went deep with a three-run home run to left field, cutting the Washburn (10-7, 3-0 MIAA) lead to 5-4. Missouri Western's
Brenden Andersen led off the eighth with a double, putting MWSU back in business.
Jared Munk walked on four-straight pitches, but a Griffon strikeout left both runners stranded. The Ichabods fired back in the bottom of the eighth, putting up five runs to keep the Griffons down. Wiese brought home
Kellen Scruggs on a fielder's choice in the ninth, but the Griffons stranded two more runners and fell, 10-5.
