Griffon Soccer drops 4-3 thriller vs. Emporia State

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Competing in their highest-scoring affair of the season, Griffon Soccer fell 4-3 at home to Emporia State Sunday at Spratt Stadium.

The Griffons (3-5-4, 1-2-1 MIAA) grabbed an early lead when Katelynn Rowland notched a corner-kick assist in the third minute, with Elisabeth Pujado scoring her second goal of the season with a header. Missouri Western went up 2-0 in the 12th minute when Carly Zabloudil scored on another corner assist from Rowland. The Griffons held a 2-1 lead after Anna Burnett's 23rd-minute goal, but three second-half goals from ESU (4-4-4, 3-1-1 MIAA) gave the Hornets a 4-2 lead. 

Kendall Knisley scored off an assist from Jaden Skinner in the 89th minute, but the Griffons could not rally in the final 60 seconds of the game.

GAME NOTES

  • Keeley Kroonenberg recorded seven saves for the Griffons out of 17 total Hornets shots.
  • Missouri Western put six shots on goal.
  • Rowland notched her first career assists in the loss.
