JOPLIN, Mo. — Missouri Western State Volleyball walked away with a three-set sweep (25-18, 25-21, 26-24) over the Missouri Southern State Lions Tuesday on the road at Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
The Griffons were led by a double-double from Holly Heldt, who registered 13 kills and 10 digs on the day. Danielle Moje also added 11 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Anna Weberg chipped in for with 21 digs to go with three blocks from Taylor Russell.
SET 1 | The Griffons seized an early lead, methodically winning the first set 25-18. Missouri Western never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Griffons took over in the second half of the stanza. Missouri Western also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Missouri Southern attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Missouri Western built on a set-one win by securing a 25-21 victory in set two. The Griffons never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Griffons took over in the second half of the stanza. The Missouri Western offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Missouri Western finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Griffons survived a back-and-forth set to win 26-24 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied six times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
