ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western State Volleyball cruised to a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-13, 25-16) over the Pittsburg State Gorillas Friday at home at the MWSU Fieldhouse.
Holly Heldt finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Griffon offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .333. The Griffons (14-5, 7-3 MIAA) got 15 digs from Anna Weberg along with five blocks from Danielle Moje to lead them defensively.
Pitt State falls to 6-12 and 2-8 in the MIAA, losing its sixth straight.
SET 1 | The Griffons won the first point and never looked back to win the first set 25-14. Missouri Western led by 12 points at 23-11 before closing out the set. Missouri Western also supplemented its offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Missouri Western won the second set 25-13 to swiftly grab a 2-0 lead. The Griffons led from the opening point on in the set to secure the victory. Missouri Western opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 12 points, to close out the set. The Griffons hit .320 over the course of the set. The Missouri Western offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. Missouri Western's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking seven Pittsburg State attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Missouri Western took set three to sweep the match 3-0. The Griffons took the set 25-16 powered by a strong performance on the attacking side. Missouri Western put together a .484 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. The Griffons ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Missouri Western offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

- This is MWSU's first win over Pitt State since Sept. 24, 2019.
