Griffon Men circle the wagons but come up short vs. NSU

ST. JOSEPH, MoAfter erasing a 24-point deficit in the waning seconds of Monday's contest vs. Northeastern State, Missouri Western Men's Basketball ultimately fell to the RiverHawks, 75-73 at the MWSU Fieldhouse in heartbreaking fashion.

Down 59-35, Missouri Western (7-5, 3-3 MIAA) started its slow but steady comeback by chipping away with 3-pointers by Reese Glover and Taye Fields. Now a 65-49 game with 6:31 left in regulation, JaRon Thames checked in for MWSU for the first time since the Griffons beat Pittsburg State on Dec. 1. Thames scored 10 points in that span, scoring his final bucket with 19 seconds left to bring the score to 73-68.

After Dillon Bailey, NSU's (7-4, 4-3 MIAA) second-best free-throw shooter, missed a free throw with 13 seconds left, Julius Dixon drew a foul while shooting from downtown, where he made 2-of-3 from the charity stripe to make it a 73-70 game. Will Eames intercepted the inbound pass from Jaxon Jones and dished an assist to Dixon, who promptly banked in a three to tie the game.

Immediately after, Glover fouled Dillon, giving him two free shots that helped finally put MWSU away after fighting all night long. With sixth-tenths of a second left on the clock, Dixon's mid-court shot at the buzzer fell short.
