ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — It took a little time — especially after a 30-minute lightning delay — but Griffon Lacrosse interim head coach Jessica Berg has officially rung the bell.
Missouri Western's 14-7 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday at Spratt Stadium is Berg's first-career win as a coach. Three different Griffons recorded hat tricks: Sam Pruitt; Madison Brady; and Caetryn Gilreath. Missouri Western and CSU-Pueblo were knotted at four after one quarter, but MWSU scored eight-straight goals while taming the ThunderWolves to zero for over 30 minutes of game time.
Missouri Western went up 13-4 thanks to a Jazmine Servance goal in the fourth and were one more away from starting the 10-goal-running-clock rule. Colorado State-Pueblo's Caira Lessick wouldn't let her team be completely torn down, scoring four goals to keep the game somewhat close. The Griffons gobbled up shots on goal, outshooting their opponents 24-13 and 29-15 overall.
With 10 goals this season, Brady broke her way into the ninth spot for goals-per-game in the GLVC with 3.33. Mikaela Ness snagged three more steals on Saturday, securing her second place in the conference with a 3.33 mark as well.
