ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Griffon Lacrosse ran into a tough matchup with a top-10 opponent on Tuesday, losing 13-4 to No. 10 Grand Valley State at Spratt Stadium.
The Lakers (4-1) drew first blood when Olivia Esposita scored within the first three minutes of the night. Three more goals put GVSU up 4-0 after one quarter. Grand Valley State's stifling defense kept Missouri Western away from the crease most of night, holding the Griffons to nine shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Mackenzie Porter pushed back against GVSU with a season-high 13 saves. Missouri Western scored one goal per quarter thanks to Mikaela Ness, Sam Pruitt, Madison Brady and Caetryn Gilreath. Brady's goal in the first is her 11th of the season, good for most on the team and seventh in the GLVC.

Missouri Western (1-3) waits until Friday when the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (0-2) comes to town for a 1 p.m. bout at Spratt Stadium. The Mountain Lions lost 14-13 in an overtime thriller with Concordia-St. Paul in the season opner and fell hard against No. 9 Regis, 18-4 on Feb. 21. Colorado Springs hasn't played a game since then, but the Mountain Lions will play GVSU tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Spratt Stadium.
