PITTSURG, Ks. — Griffon Baseball came out guns blazing on Friday to start the series in the jungle, but the Gorillas tore the wheels off Missouri Western's wagon late to win 9-4.
Down 4-3 in the sixth inning, Missouri Western's
Brenden Andersen belted a game-tying home run to left-center field to swing momentum back to his squad. Just half an inning later, an errant throw from first baseman
Jared Munk helped Pittsburg State steal two unearned runs from
Samson Holcomb to go up 6-4.
Jared Slater took the mound in the eighth, giving up a run on a wild pitch and then two more on one swing — PSU's fourth homer of the game.
The Griffons committed four errors on the day and sent four pitchers to the mound. Holcomb gave up three earned runs and struck out three to match. Meanwhile
Alex Crouch had himself a day, hitting 3-for-5 and crushing his sixth homer of the season — good for fourth in the MIAA.
