CHARLESTON, Wv. — For the first time since starting the inaugural 2021 season 1-0, Griffon Lacrosse has a winning record thanks to a four-game winning streak.
A full-day-lightning delay couldn't keep Missouri Western (5-4) from trouncing the University of Charleston 10-2 on Thursday night. Already up 3-0 when play picked back up in the first quarter thanks to
Amani Robinson's and
Madison Brady's goals 24 hours earlier,
Sam Pruitt made it 4-0 technically just seven game-time minutes later.
Abby Lockwood netted a score as well and gave the Griffons a 5-0 lead to end the first quarter.
While the Golden Eagles (2-4) outscored the Griffons in the second, it didn't matter. Missouri Western clamped down on Charleston, shutting them out the entire second half. Those two goals given up mark a season best for
Mackenzie Porter and the Griffons after beating Westminster 13-5 on March 13.
Next Up
No rest for the Griffons as they pick the stick back up for Friday's 6 p.m. (CST) contest with Davis and Elkins (3-3) over two hours away in Elkins, West Virginia. The Senators started the season 0-3 but have won their last three, outscoring their opponents 49-24. Meanwhile, this winning streak for MWSU is the first in program history to surpass two games.
