Griffs Finish Top of the Class at Fairfield Inn & Suites Classic

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Wrapping up the Fairfield Inn and Suites Classic on Sunday, Griffon Softball took both games against Wisconsin-Parkside and Upper Iowa to complete their 4-0 run of the tournament.

Game 1
MWSU 12, WI-Parkside 2 - Final/5

The Griffons run-ruled the Rangers in five innings to win the first game 12-2. Sydney Rader's solid outing featuired six strikeouts and just one hit given up, keeping the Rangers' offense at bay. Sydni Hawkins' bat was blistering hot as she totaled three hits, three RBI and a stolen base.

MWSU 4, Upper Iowa 2

To tie a bow on the weekend, the Griffons beat the Peacocks 4-2. Rader completed her wondrous, winning weekend with seven strikeouts while only giving up two runs against Upper Iowa. Bubba Hoelscher held it down for Rader on the offensive side with two hits and two RBI.

Weekend Notables

  • Rader racked up 35 strikeouts in 22 innings and went the distance in three of her four appearances this weekend. 
  • The Griffons outscored their opponents 27-9 and notched their second shutout of the season on Saturday in the first game against Bemidji State.
  • Rachel Stewart's game-winning homer on Saturday vs. Bemidji State in game two was the first Griffon walk-off win of 2022.
  • Natalee Weber's home run against BSU was her first hit of the season. Weber went 3-for-3 in that game with two RBI and a double. She hit a healthy 4-for-9 in the tourney.

Next Up

The Griffons (11-14, 2-2 MIAA) will be back home this week on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Rockhurst (8-14, 3-5 GLVC). Action will start at 3 p.m at the Spring Sports Complex.
