Nicholson's Career Day Controls Westminster for Weekend Finale Win

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Down 3-2 after one quarter on Sunday, Griffon Lacrosse locked down the Westminster Griffins for the next three, quite literally controlling the contest for a 13-5 win to close out this weekend at Spratt Stadium.

Missouri Western (3-4) found its groove on offense against Westminster (1-3) just about every possession thanks to Morgan Nicholson's 11 draw controls. She was just two shy of tying the program record of 13 set by last year's All-GLVC first-teamer Jordan Shughrue. Thanks to those controls, the Griffons climbed back in front 5-4 during the second with a goal by Caetryn Gilreath, which was assisted by Claire Coretti

Two more goals by Abby Lockwood and Mikaela Ness put MWSU up 7-4 at the half. Nicholson also nabbed two goals of her own later on, as did Sam Pruitt and Ness. Amani Robinson led all players with three scores.

After a five-goal-second quarter by MWSU, things took a turn for the worse for Westminster, only scoring two goals in the last two quarters while turning it over 29 times the entire game. Meanwhile, the Griffons made their Griffin counterparts pay for their fouls, shooting 4-for-5 in free-possession shots. Westminster missed their ownly two opportunities.
