ST. JOSEPH, Mo. –– Griffon Volleyball upset No. 17 Washburn on Senior Day at MWSU Fieldhouse by a score of 3-1 on Saturday.

Danielle Moje led the Griffons with 15 kills. Lia Graham led the Griffons with 21 digs, followed by Nessa Johnson with 16. 

The win marks the first time the Griffons have beaten a ranked team since October 13, 2017, when they beat No. 7 Central Oklahoma. 

SET ONE (25-19 MWSU)

The Griffons battled from behind for the majority of the set. A service error from Washburn gave the Griffons the lead at 18-17, and a 6-0 run finished the set off for the Griffons.

SET TWO ( 25-22 MWSU)

The beginning of the set was hotly contested, but the Griffons took the lead in the midst of an 11-2 run, starting at 9-6. Washburn made a run, but a Johnson kill finished the set off at 25-22.

SET THREE (25-17 WU)

Washburn played with momentum the entire set, utilizing multiple runs to grow the lead. The Griffons battled back towards the end, but the Ichabods found a way to pull the set out.

SET FOUR (25-18)

The Griffons jumped out to a 5-1 lead early, and never looked back. Washburn took the Griffon lead down to two at one point, but Johnson's ace put the set, and match, to bed.

NOTABLES

•  Johnson finished with a team high 34 assists.
• Johnson finished with three aces, joined by Graham and Hailey Crane, who both had two.
• The Griffons finished set two and four with 14 kills.
