ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Soccer is on the road once again to take on the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma and the Jets from Newman this weekend in the program's final weekend road trip of the regular season.
The last time the Griffons hit the field, they faced stiff competition from Emporia State. After falling behind early, the Griffons couldn't stop the bleeding, falling to the Hornets by a score of 6-0.
10/7 - SCOUTING CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
The Bronchos (8-1-3, MIAA 3-1-1) have a potent attack, scoring two or more goals seven times this season. Junior forward Amaya Grace leads the line for the Bronchos, scoring four goals this season. Sophomore midfielder Madison Linavong has added three goals and eight assists.
The Griffons are 2-8-1 all-time against the Bronchos and are just 1-3-1 in Edmond. The last time the two met, the Bronchos won 1-0 on a second-minute goal by Linavong. First kick is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. in Edmond, Oklahoma.
10/9 - SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets (1-10-1, MIAA 1-4-0) have struggled to stop goals going in this year, allowing three or more goals in seven games this season so far. The Jets have three players tied for top scorer with two goals apiece. Junior Jordan Webster is between the sticks for the Jets, totaling 88 saves this season so far.
The Griffons have only played the Jets four times, going 1-1-2 against them. Both draws have come in Newman. The last time the two met, the Griffons came away with a 2-1 win with goals on either side of the halftime interval downing the Jets.
THIS WEEK IN GRIFFON SOCCER
On Oct. 8, 2016, the Griffons won a thriller in overtime in Kearney, Nebraska, winning 2-1. Bridget Blessie opened the scoring for the Griffons in the 34th minute, but UNK hit back with a goal in the 49th minute. Kearney received a red card in the 86th minute and was down to 10 players for the remainder of the game. The Griffons used this, and in the 96th minute, Cassidy Menke slotted home the game-winner from eight yards out to give the Griffons a well-earned victory.
