Box Score The first half was quiet, with the Griffons's best chance coming in the 15th minute as
Tina Palmieri's effort from 20 yards out sailed just over the crossbar.
Rockhurst's Hannah Byrne tested
Anna Mayer in the 25th minute with a 30-yard shot from right wing, but MWSU's keeper had the back post effort covered and watched it bounce off the crossbar and out for a goal kick.
Missouri Western came out of halftime on the front foot but Rockhurst struck first, against the run of play in the 53rd minute. Olivia Schwarzen was in the right place to collect a mishit clearing effort from Mayer, and lifted a 35-yard shot over the Griffons keeper.
The home side answered in the 55th as Palmieri served a cross in from the left wing to find Campbell, and took the lead minutes later.
Lillian Davis returned the favor to the Hawks, as she collected a mishit clearance from the Rockhurst defense and rocketed a shot over the outstretched hands of Taylor James.
MWSU doubled its lead just 98 seconds later, as
Jaden Skinner lofted a cross to the right foot of Campbell at the top of the 18 yard box. Her first shot was saved, but the rebound fell right to the Loveland, Colo., junior and she powered it home to the left of James.
Campbell finished the hat trick in the 65th minute, and MWSU continued to outpace Rockhurst over the final 25 minutes en route to the 4-1 win. The hat trick is the second in MWSU history, matching Taylor Schwarzkopf's Sept. 1, 2017 effort against Ouachita Baptist.
The Griffons embark on a four-game road swing, opening with a 3 p.m. kickoff at Wayne State College on Friday, Sept. 10.
