Box Score ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western soccer coach Damian Macias earned his first official win as the head coach of the Griffons on Friday as they defeated Concordia-St. Paul, 2-1, in their season opener at Spratt Stadium.  The game was part of the Stoney Creek Hotel Classic.
 
Macias led MWSU to an 8-3-1 record last spring in his first season in St. Joseph, but the NCAA didn't count those game so he had to wait until year two to earn win number one.
 
Missouri Western was able to rally in their opener as Concordia-St. Paul struck first with a goal from Katie Anderson in the 10^th minute.  Griffon goalkeeper Anna Mayer finish with five saves on the night as she and her teammates pitched a shutout the rest of the way.
 
Two newcomers helped the MWSU offense get going as Evelyn Daly evened the game in the 28^th minutes with the first goal of her career.  The game was tied 1-1 at halftime and then the Griffons' Jaden Skinner found the back of the net in the 66^th minutes to give Missouri Western its first lead and they held on for the win.
 
CSP outshot the Griffons 14-9, but both teams had six shots on goal.  Eszter Toth led MWSU with four shots, while Daly added three and they each had two shots on goal.
 
Missouri Western will continue play in the Stoney Creek Hotel Classic as they square off against Rockhurst at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday inside Spratt Stadium.  Rockhurst fell in their opener Friday to Emporia State, 1-0.
