Eight Saves From Mayer Not Enough As Griffons Fall 3-2 to #19 UCM

Box Score MWSU had a couple of solid chances early in the first half, but UCM struck first in the 26th minute off the foot of Ashleigh Martin. Lindsay Edmonds put the pass right on the foot of Martin, and the Jennies forward was able to slot it just to the right of an oncoming Mayer.
The Jennies doubled their lead nine minutes later, as Sydney Leslie was able to collect the loose ball on her blocked shot and put the rebound past Mayer.
MWSU went into the locker room trailing 2-0, but came out of the half well on the front foot. Kelsey Burkey cut the Jennies lead in half, rocketing a shot from 25 yards out past Lindsey Johnson.
The Jennies answered in the 52nd minute to push their lead back fo 3-1, but Missouri Western kept up the pressure and narrowed the gap in the 68th. Eszter Toth put a shot past Johnson, but it ultimately proved to be not wnough to spark the Griffons comeback.
Missouri Western opens conference play on Sunday, hosting Missouri Southern State University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
