Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball drops both games of doubleheader at UCO

EDMOND, Okla. – The Missouri Western baseball team dropped both game of their doubleheader at Central Oklahoma Saturday.  The Griffon lost the opener, 6-4, and then fell game two, 2-1.  MWSU is now 10-22 this season and 8-18 in the MIAA.

GAME 1 – Central Oklahoma 6, Missouri Western 4
UCO jumped out to a 4-0 lead with one run in the first inning and three more in the third.  The Griffons got one back in the top of the fifth inning before the Bronchos made it 6-1 after five.  Missouri Western rallied to pull with two runs as they scored one in the sixth inning and two more runs in the eight, but that was as close as they'd get.

Gustavo Gonzalez and Ben Tsui led MWSU with two hits and one RBI each, while Iasid Bernal hit a solo home run and Andrew Meier added the other RBI.

Brian Tan (1-4) suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs and eight hits in five innings of work.  He struck out five and walked four.  Black Van Hercke threw three hitless innings of relief to keep the Griffs in the game.

GAME 2 – Central Oklahoma 2, Missouri Western 1
The Griffons were able to strike first in game two as Ryan Neise came through with a two-out single in the second inning to score Bailey Crump and put Missouri Western ahead 1-0.  Unfortunately, that was all MWSU would get offensively.  Central Oklahoma scored two runs with two outs in the third inning to take the lead and that turned out to be enough.

Brock Wrolstad started and threw well as he went 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on six hits.  Wrolstad struck out a career-high eight and walked four.  Jacob Standridge came on in relief and he threw 2.2 hitless inning to keep it a one-run game.

Neise had two hits, while Gonzalez, Bernal, Alex Crouch and Jared Munk added one hit each.
