CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Missouri Western baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader Saturday at Rogers State. The Griffons were blanked in game one, 3-0, and fell in the nightcap, 9-5, as MWSU is now 2-8 this season and 1-4 in the MIAA.
GAME 1 – Rogers State 3, Missouri Western 0
The Griffons only managed five hits in the opener as they were all singles.
Chaz Verduzco had two hits to lead Missouri Western. They left eight men on base for the game and had three innings where they left two on.
Roy Robles (2-1) suffered his first loss on the mound as he went just 3.2 innings. Robles allowed two runs and three hits, and he struck out four and walked five.
GAME 2 – Rogers State 9, Missouri Western 5
Missouri Western took a 1-0 lead in first inning as
Colby Tam had an RBI single to score
Ben Tsui, but then Rogers State answered back with six unanswered runs over the next five innings. The Griffs pulled to within three runs, 6-3, on a two-run home run by
Bailey Crump in the seventh, but that was as close as they'd get.
Verduzco added two more hits in the second game, while
Sal Jacobo recorded his first career hit and scored two runs. Tsui added an RBI in the ninth inning.
Jacob Weirich (0-1) took the loss for MWSU as he went 3.1 innings and allowed four runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked three.
