TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Missouri Western softball team split a doubleheader at Northeastern State Saturday as they lost the opener to the RiverHawks, 6-4, before rallying to win game two, 4-1. The Griffons are now 16-6 and 5-1 in the MIAA.
GAME 1 – Northeastern State 6, Missouri Western 4
MWSU fell behind 4-2 after two innings in game one before rallying with one run in the third and one more in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game. NSU then answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and that turned out to be the difference.
Sydney Rader (7-3) suffered her third loss in the circle as she lasted five innings and allowed six runs on eight hits. Rader helped herself at the plate as she had one hit and two RBI.
Brea Blanton added two hits and two runs scored, while
Taylor Hoelscher and
Rachel Stewart each drove in one run.
GAME 2 – Missouri Western 4, Northeastern State 1
The Griffons had to rally in game two to avoid a sweep in Tahlequah as MWSU was down 1-0 after six innings. Missouri Western had just three hits in the first six innings, but they exploded for four runs on four hits in the top of the seventh to earn the win.
Kalyn Damgaard started the seventh inning with a single,
Sydni Hawkins double and
Brea Blanton was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Emma Hoffart then tied the game on a fielder's choice,
Chloe Armstrong drove in two with a single and
Taylor Hoelscher capped off the scoring with an RBI single to right.
Kaili Hinds threw a complete game in the circle to improve to 7-1. Hinds allowed one run on five hits as she struck out two and walked just one.

Missouri Western return to the Spring Sports Complex on Friday as they play host to Washburn in a doubleheader that begins at 5:00 p.m. in St. Joseph.
