COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Missouri Western lacrosse team played its first road game of season Friday and came up short against Colorado-Colorado Springs, 19-13. The Griffons fall to 2-3 this season, while the Mountain Lions are 2-0.
UCCS jumped out to a 2-0 lead and MWSU played from behind all game long. They did rally to tie the game 3-3, but they were never able to take the lead. The Griffons stayed within three goals of the Mountain Lions throughout the entire first half. They pulled to within one goal six different times in the first 30 minutes before UC-Colorado Springs eventually led 10-8 at halftime.
The Mountain Loins pulled away early in the second half as they scored five of the first six goals after halftime and Missouri Western was never able to get any closer than five goals the rest of the way.
After an even first half, MWSU was outshot in the second half 26-9 and they committed 14 turnovers after having just six in the first 30 minutes. The Griffons only won two draw controls in the second half as UCCS had 22 for the game and Missouri Western had 12.

Mackenzie Porter was brilliant Friday as she kept the Griffons in the game with 27 saves.
Jordan Shughrue led the Griffons with five goals,
Madison Brady added three,
Catherine Langmaid and
Abby Lockwood had two goals, and
Karlin York scored one.
Missouri Western will stay in Colorado as they play at Colorado State-Pueblo (1-2) Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
