ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western women's lacrosse team played its inaugural game Friday night inside Spratt Stadium as they debuted against Culver-Stockton. The Griffons rolled to a 17-0 victory for the first win in program history.
It didn't take long for MWSU to strike first as
Madison Iandoli found the back of the net off a pass from
Madison Brady just 50 seconds into the game.
Karlin York and
Jorja Schooler added goals within the first three and half minutes of the game and the Griffons took control early.
Missouri Western then put the game away midway through the first half as they scored five goals in a three-minute stretch to build a 9-0 lead and they eventually led 11-0 at halftime.
Brady and
Catherine Langmaid each scored two goals in the second half, while two Griffon goalkeepers pitched the shutout.
Mackenzie Porter made one save in the first 30 minutes and then
Kari Ham played the second half and made three saves.
Madison Brady had a big night for MWSU with eight points (4 goals, 4 assists), while Langmaid had four points (3 goals, 1 assist).
Karlin York,
Jordan Shughrue,
Abby Lockwood and
Madison Iandoli added two goals each for the Griffons.
Missouri Western finished with 29 shots and 23 of those were on goal. MWSU won the draw control battle 11-7 and Culver-Stockton committed 22 turnovers to the Griffons 14.
Missouri Western is back in action Sunday as they host Alabama-Huntsville at 1:00 p.m. inside Spratt Stadium.
