Skinner Brace Rockets Missouri Western To 3-0 Win Over Washburn

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- After a Friday night loss in which they largely outplayed the no. 6 team in the nation, the Griffons came roaring back into the win column with a 3-0 win over Washburn on Sunday afternoon. Jaden Skinner scored both second half goals for Missouri Western, the first two-goal game of her collegiate career.
Missouri Western took control of the match early and opened the scoring in the 11th minute as Washburn's Olivia Herringer got tangled up with Lauren Street inside the edge of the 18-yard box. Street stepped to the penalty spot and sent one low and to her right with enough pace to get under the diving Raegan Wells.
The Griffons had multiple chances to double their lead over the next half-hour, but went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Skinner needed just two minutes out of the break to double the MWSU lead, as the Griffons high defensive line forced a turnover from Washburn. Lauren Nylund collected the ball and played Skinner out on the left wing, where the sophomore transfer struck a laser into the upper 90.
She put the game out of reach in the 83rd minute, this time off the assist from Tina Palmieri, as Skinner beat the Washburn keeper near post to her left.
Anna Mayer had five saves in the match as the Griffons posted a 13-5 edge in shots on goal. Wells had 10 saves on the afternoon for the Ichabods.
Missouri Western embarks on a four-game road trip next week, traveling to Fort Hays State on Friday, Oct. 8, for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
