Toth Header Gives Missouri Western A 1-0 Win Over Nebraska-Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Jaden Skinner pushed her scoring streak to three games on Sunday afternoon as Missouri Western (7-3-2, 4-1-0 MIAA) downed Nebraska-Kearney (2-10, 1-4 MIAA) 1-0. Skinner had an assist on Eszter Toth's goal in the 56th minute, the fifth consecutive Griffon goal that Skinner has been involved with.
Missouri Western dominated the first half, with 60 percent of the possession over the opening 45 minutes. The Griffons forced Eden Miura into four saves in the first half, the most dangerous of them coming from the foot of Skinner in the 23rd minute.
At the end of a promising buildup, Skinner collected a pass on the left side of midfield and rocketed a right-footed shot that was pushed over the bar by Miura.
After seeing only two shots in the first, both off-target, Anna Mayer was pushed into action in the 53rd minute, albeit mildly as Bridget Barker's shot was directly at the Griffon keeper.
Moments later, Tina Palmieri almost opened the scoring for Missouri Western with a far post effort in the 55th minute. Miura was able to make a diving stop to her right, pushing the shot wide and over the end line for a Griffon corner kick.
As Evelyn Daly stepped up to take the corner kick, Palmieri made a flashing run out from the near post and collected a short pass from Davis. Palmieri one-touched it back to Skinner, who lofted the ball into the six-yard box. Toth outjumped both her defender and Miura to nod the ball into the net.
The Lopers had a chance to equalize in the 68th minute, but Mayer was again easily up to the task, stopping the Perla Navarro shot.
Missouri Western finished with a 7-2 edge in shots on goal and collected four corner kicks to none for Nebraska-Kearney. The Griffons look to solidify their hold on third place as they take on Northeastern State University on Friday night, October 15. Kickoff in Tahlequah, Okla., is set for 7 p.m.
