JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The No. 23 Missouri Western men's basketball team suffered its third straight loss Saturday as they fell at Lincoln, 95-74. The Griffons drop to 8-4 this season, while improves to 8-4 and the two teams split their season series.
MWSU scored the first five points of the game, but the Blue Tigers used a 14-2 run to take the lead and never trailed again. Western went back-and-forth with LU for the next 10 minutes and trailed 27-22 with 8:28 left in the half before Lincoln then went on an 18-4 run and eventually led 51-34 at the break.
Missouri Western came into the game leading the MIAA in defensive field goal percentage at 40.8%, but the Blue Tigers shot 62.5% (20-of-32) in the first half and made 4-of-9 three-point field goals.
Lincoln picked up where they left off as they scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 59-34 lead and led by as many as 29 point in the game. The Griffons never got closer than 20 the rest of the way as they finished the game shooting just 38.6% (22-of-57) from the field and 30.4% (7-of-23) from the three-point line. LU outrebounded MWSU 40-27.
The Blue Tigers shot 59.3% (35-of-59) overall for the game and went 7-of-16 from behind the three-point line.
Tyrell Carroll and
Q Mays had 15 points each to lead Missouri Western, while
Will Eames added eight points and
Nico Felici scored a career-high eight. Carroll added four rebounds and five assists, and he moved up the MWSU all-time charts on Saturday. TC moved into ninth place on the Griffons' career scoring chart as he passed Lamont Turner with his 15 points. Carroll now has 1151 career points. He also moved into fourth all-time in career assists with 322 as he passed Larry Taylor on Saturday.
