ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Soccer will open the 2019 season by hosting the Stoney Creek Hotel Classic, a four-team non-conference crossover.
The classic will consist of four games this coming weekend, but only two will feature the Griffons. These games will see the Griffons take on Lindenwood on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. and Rockhurst on Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. The two other games will offer matchups for a MIAA opponent in Emporia State, in which the Hornets will take on Rockhurst at 3 on Sept. 6 and Lindenwood at Noon on Sept. 8.
Lindenwood will be the opening regular season opponent for the Griffons and their 2019 season. The Lions boasted a 7-10-2 record in 2018 with a 4-6-1 conference record. A former MIAA opponent turned Great Lakes Valley Conference member.
Rockhurst serves as a Sunday matinee for the Griffons. The Hawks posted an 11-8-2 overall record in 2018 with an 8-5 record in the GLVC. Rockhurst also had a postseason run to the NCAA Midwest Regional in 2018.
These two matchups for the Griffons start off a six-game homestand to begin the 2019 season. The next matchup will be against Wayne State College at the Spratt on Sept. 13 at 6 p.m.
