JOPLIN, Mo. – Missouri Southern (2-6) scored three goals in the second half to hand Griffon Soccer (3-4-1) a 4-1 loss in both teams' MIAA opener.
Taylor Schwartzopf scored her second goal of the season in the fourth minute of the game to give MWSU a 1-0 lead. From there it was all Missouri Southern. The Lions evened things up in the 16
th minute and sent the game to halftime tied at one. In a five minute span, Southern took a 3-1 lead with goals in the 65
th and 70
th minutes. The final goal came in the 86
th on a penalty kick.
Missouri Southern out-shot the Griffons 16-9 in the game with eight on goal. Five of MWSU's shots were on frame.
