ST. JOSEPH – After the team's 2019 debut in the Stoney Creek Hotel Classic, Missouri Western Soccer (0-2) will welcome Wayne State College (0-1-1) and the Sioux Falls (0-1) to town this weekend.
After one week of play,
Anna Mayer leads the MIAA in both total saves (30) and her average of saves per game (15). Mayer broke the team record for saves in a game against Rockhurst with 18. The Griffons and their two weekend opponents are all awaiting their first goal of the season.
The Griffons will host Wayne State on Friday at 6 p.m. at Spratt Stadium. Wayne State comes in with a 0-1-1 record after falling 1-0 to Harding in overtime and a scoreless draw at Nebraska-Kearney last week. Wayne State went 4-12-1 last season, 4-10-1 in the NSIC. The Griffons will also compete against Sioux Falls on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cougars will be looking to bounce back after starting the regular season 0-1 with a loss to MIAA opponent Fort Hays State last week. Sioux Falls went 5-11-2 last season, including a 2-1 home loss to the Griffons.
This week's games are the third and fourth of six-straight home games to open the season. MWSU will host Missouri Southern and Northwest Missouri next week in non-conference games.
