Leads Evaporate at Henderson State Invitational

Griffons drop first two games of regional crossover

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Griffon Baseball (1-4) lost leads in both games on day one of the Henderson State Invitational.
 
Missouri Western led 4-2 early before dropping the first game of the crossover to Henderson State (3-1). Ouachita Baptist (2-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Griffons 4-3 in the night cap of the invitational.
 
GAME 1
Henderson State 13, Missouri Western 6
  • Henderson State scored 11 of its runs from the fourth inning on
  • The Griffons led 4-2 after 3 ½ innings, but a four-run fourth for Henderson Sate gave the Reddies a lead they never relinquished
  • Dusty Stroup hit two doubles and went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs
  • Jacob Miller got the start and allowed four runs, two earned through 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and four walks
  • Kellan Richards (0-1) took the loss in relief of Miller. Richards went three innings, allowing five runs, all earned on five hits. He also struck out three.
  • MWSU was charged with four errors in the game
  • Each team had two doubles, the only extra base hits in the game
 
GAME 2
Ouachita Baptist 4, Missouri Western 3
  • Roy Robles tied A.J. Huttenlocker's MWSU single-game record with 14 strikeouts in the game
  • Robles also had an MWSU all-time-high eight walks in the game
  • The Griffon starter put the first two Tigers on in the ninth via walk and hit batter
  • Levi Abrahamson entered in relief of Robles and allowed an RBI single that tied the game
  • The winning run came via a bases loaded walk with two out
  • Robles took the loss, despite allowing just one hit and one earned run through eight-plus innings on the mound. Both the game-tying and game-winning runs were charged to Robles, who threw 142 pitches in the game.
  • Dusty Stroup tied the game at 2 in the sixth with his third double of the day
  • Michael Miller delivered an RBI double that put the Griffs ahead 3-2 in the sixth
  • Ouachita Baptist jumped out to a 2-0 lead in first, scoring both runs on a throwing error

  • The Griffons take on Arkansas-Fort Smith (4-1) at noon on Saturday at Henderson State
