ST. JOSEPH – After over two weeks off from competition, Missouri Western Tennis (4-2) returned to the courts in a 6-1 victory over Quincy on Friday afternoon. The Griffons have now won three-straight matches after dropping their first match of the spring season.
The Griffons again swept doubles play with three convincing wins. Karolina Ström and
Joanna Abreu Roman improved to 4-0 in doubles this spring with a 6-3 victory.
Ström kept momentum in the Griffons' favor with the first win in singles, defeating her opponent 6-0 in back-to-back sets. The Griffons would go on to win four of the next five matchups on their way to the win.
Joanna Abreu Roman and
Federica Salmaso both narrowly won their first set by a score of 7-6, but made quick work of their opponents in the second set.
Ciarra Gilmore picked up the win in what turned out to be the most competitive match of the afternoon. After dropping the first set 6-4, Gilmore won the next two sets to walk away with the win.
Missouri Western will play the first of eight-straight matches away from home as the team travels to John Brown University (Ark.) for its next match on March 1.
