Men's Basketball to Host Missouri S&T on Sunday

Griffons open home play with the Miners

ST. JOSEPH – Griffon Men's Basketball hosts their first game at the MWSU Fieldhouse on Sunday, as the Griffons (1-3, 0-0 MIAA) host non-conference opponent Missouri S&T.
 
The Griffons open home play after two straight weekends at the St. Joseph Civic Arena highlighted by the first win of the 2019 season against Minnesota State-Moorhead 70-55.
 
PREVIEWING THE GRIFFONS
 
  • Missouri Western ranks seventh in the MIAA in scoring offense, averaging 70.5 points per game.
  • The Griffons also rank second in the league in blocked shots with a rate of 4.5 per game.
  • Tyrell Carroll ranks eighth in the conference in average scoring with a rate of 16.8.
  • Carroll also ranks ninth in the MIAA in field goal percentage shooting 55%.
  • Tyus Millhollin ranks in the top-15 of the league in three-point field goals made per game with two per contest.
  • Alex John ranks second in the MIAA in blocked shots per game with a rate of 2.3.
 
SCOUTING MISSOURI S&T
 
  • The GLVC team will open their 2019 season against two MIAA schools hosting Lincoln University on Wednesday and travelling to St. Joseph to take on the Griffons. The Miners finished 5-21 in the 2018 season, with those of those wins coming from GLVC opponents.
  • S&T also averaged 75 points per game with 43% field goal percentage last season.
  • The Miners' top returning scorer is CJ Hedgepath. Hedgepath averaged 12.5 points per contest and averaged 41% from the field.
  • The Miners' top returning rebounder is Mitch Fairless. Fairless totaled 95 rebounds and averaged four per game.
